Dispersing Agent
I. General Information
Nova dispersants are polymeric dispersants developed to disperse and stabilize pigments in coating, ink, and plastics application. Nova greatly enhances the properties and performance of the finished products. The benefits include:
- Reduction of viscosity
- Color strength enhancement
- Gloss increase
- Longer storage stability

General Guideline
In general, it is advised to go for a higher pigment loading with Nova dispersing agent in the formulation. The reason is that Nova dispersing agent lowers the intermolecular force which leads to significant viscosity reduction in the system. At
a low viscosity and if too low, proper grinding will not occur. It is then recommended to increase pigment loading in order to lift the millbase to proper milling viscosity by the grinding machine. Higher pigment loading also means higher letdown
output which increases the overall production output.
Based on many experiments, there is a theoretical dosage level for dispersing agent in a formulation. This can also be expressed as % Dispersing Agent on the weight of pigment.
